In this section, we have listed the steps that’ll help you write an impeccable essay on any topic and score full marks!

These steps are common for all types of essays. Be it a Narrative Essay, Reflective Essay, Descriptive Essay, Expository Essay or an Imaginative Essay.

#1 Understanding, Planning, and Organising the Essay

Understand the Question

Make sure you understand the question completely before you write your essay. In this way, you will be able to understand how to approach the essay and what your emphasis should be.

Planning is Everything

We should all heed the words of Benjamin Franklin. “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” After understanding the question, make a plan in line with the purpose and the target audience for whom the article is being written.

Research on the Topic

You must carry out thorough research on the topic before starting to write. You must have knowledge of the subject you are writing for. This is especially important if you are writing an academic essay. You might also find it helpful to make notes as you carry out the research.

Make an Outline

Now, after you have the content ready, you need to arrange it in a logical order. Else, your essay will look badly systematised, discursive, dis-proportioned, and full of repetition and irrelevant.

#2 Writing the Essay

The Introduction

The introduction of your essay should provide a synopsis of your topic. Summarize your principal argument in a thesis statement. Try to make it catchy. You can begin with a fact, a quotation, a proverb, a brief story, or a question to intrigue the readers.

The Body of the Essay

This is the main content of the essay. In the body, present your arguments in various paragraphs. Following are some useful tips to keep in mind while writing the body:

  • Write in a balanced manner. Do not elaborate on only one argument, leaving less space for the other.

  • Write in organised and well-constructed paragraphs Use one paragraph for each principal argument.

  • Choose a suitable vocabulary and avoid any clichés or jargons. Also, watch out for common grammatical errors as you write.

  • Use transition sentences (cohesive devices) between paragraphs.

  • Always write to the point. Be clear and persuasive.

The Conclusion

It restates the pivotal point of the essay. You may also end the essay with a suitable quotation. The conclusion comprises 1-2 paragraphs.
